You don’t say how old the boat is. My guess is that the color under the vinyl is the original color of the gel coat . Try putting some compound on the oxidized area and see what color you get.

I have a ‘79 Glastron Carlson CVX 16 and about eight years ago I sprayed an automotive grade clear coat to the top half of the hull on top of the gel coat . Now, the clear coat is badly peeling, fading, and yellowing.
